Sikaflex® 295 UV is a high-quality marine sealant and direct glazing adhesive designed specifically for use in the marine industry. It is a 1-component polyurethane adhesive with excellent application properties, resistant to aging and weathering, making it suitable for both interior and exterior sealing applications.
Sikaflex® 295 UV is specially developed for the marine industry, where it is used to bond and seal plastic glazing materials in boats and ships. It can also be used to seal joints in exposed areas due to its excellent weatherability. Suitable substrates include aluminum (bright or anodized), GRP (polyester resin), stainless steel, timber, 2-component coatings, and plastic glazing materials (PC, PMMA).
Prior to application, surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from grease, oil, dust, and contaminants. Surface treatment should be performed according to the specific nature of the substrates and is crucial for achieving a long-lasting bond. Please refer to the current edition of the appropriate Sika® Pre-treatment Chart for surface preparation suggestions.
Sikaflex® 295 UV can be applied within a temperature range of 10 °C to 35 °C (climate and product). However, changes in reactivity and application properties should be considered. The optimum temperature for substrate and sealant is between 15 °C and 25 °C. For easy application, condition the adhesive at ambient temperature prior to use. It is recommended to apply the adhesive in the form of a triangular bead to ensure a uniform thickness of the bonding.
Tooling and finishing should be carried out within the skin time of the product. Sika® Tooling Agent N is recommended for this purpose, although other finishing agents can be tested for suitability and compatibility.
Uncured Sikaflex® 295 UV can be removed from tools and equipment using Sika® Remover-208 or another suitable solvent. Once cured, the material can only be removed mechanically. It is important to wash hands and exposed skin immediately using Sika® Cleaner-350H cleaning towels or a suitable industrial hand cleaner and water. Solvents should not be used on the skin.
Sikaflex® 295 UV can be painted prior to and after the formation of the skin. If painting is done after the sealant has built a skin, adhesion can be improved by treating the joint surface with Sika® Aktivator-100 or Sika® Aktivator-205 prior to the painting process. If the paint requires a baking process (> 80 °C), it is recommended to allow the sealant to fully cure first. All paints should be tested through preliminary trials under manufacturing conditions.
